ओड़ीशा से एक सकारात्मक खबर आ रही है। मछली पकड़ने वाली बिल्लियाँ, या जंगली बिल्लियाँ, पूरी दुनिया में लुप्तप्राय प्रजातियों मेँ हैं। यह बिल्ली बाघ की ही एक प्रजाति है और यह सुंदर प्राणी आर्द्रभूमि मेँ पाएग जाती है। चिलका डेवलपमेंट अथॉरिटी (CDA) द्वारा 2020 में इस जीव चिलका वन्य जीव का ब्रांड एंबेसडर गया। ओडिया कवि राधानाथ राय की कविता, राहा राह अर्रे और चिलका की एक खूबसूरत तस्वीर स्कॉटिश एम्बेसी मेँ है जहां पानी से भाप बनकर उड़ रहा है। आज यह प्राणी दुनिया मेँ विलुप्त होने के कगार पर है। यह प्रजाति वियतनाम और जावा में स्थानीय है, लेकिन भारत में भितरकनिका, उत्तर प्रदेश, असम, पश्चिम बंगाल, आंध्र प्रदेश और ओडिशा में पाई जाती है। चिलका में यह लुप्तप्राय प्रजातियों की श्रेणी मेँ आ गया है। इस प्राणी को अब चिलका का ब्रांड एंबेसडर या राज्य सरकार के चिलका विकास प्राधिकरण में राजदूत घोषित किया गया है।
दुनिया का यह दुर्लभ प्राणी आर्द्रभूमि का एक खूबसूरत प्राणी है। यह देखने में बिल्कुल बाघ जैसा दिखता है, लेकिन है यह बिल्ली ही। दुनिया में अब उनमें से केवल 3,500 हैं। भारतीय वन्यजीव अधिनियम 162 के अनुसार, सरकार ने मछली पकड़ने वाली बिल्लियों, के साथ ही हाथी, बाघ और गैंडा को अनुसूची -1 जानवरों के रूप में घोषित किया है। कलकत्ता स्थित एक संस्थान के एक शोध के बाद राज्य सरकार को सूचित किए जाने के बाद इस जीव को चिलका नलघास इलाके में मृत पाया गया, राज्य सरकार ने इसे गंभीरता से लिया।
चिल्का झील विश्व पर्यटन मानचित्र पर प्रसिद्ध है। चिल्का झील में नलबन, झील मंगलायोदी पक्षी अभयारण्य और सेवन इरावदी डॉल्फ़िन देखने के लिए हर साल दुनिया भर से हजारों पर्यटक चिलका आते हैं।
