गोमती रिवर फ्रन्ट की दुर्दशा और नदी की गन्दगी को देखकर दुःखी हो गये अखिलेश यादव। उन्होने कहा कि भाजपा सरकार ने गोमती रिवर फ्रन्ट बर्बाद कर दिया। वे गणतंत्र दिवस के दिन लखनऊ में गोमती रिवर फ्रन्ट पहुंचे थे। उनके साथ पूर्व कैबिनेट मंत्री राजेन्द्र चौधरी भी थे।

अखिलेश ने कहा कि समाजवादी सरकार में गोमती नदी पर विश्वस्तरीय रिवर फ्रन्ट बनाया गया था। नदियों को साफ रखने का यही तरीका था जिस तरह से समाजवादी सरकार ने शुरू किया था। गोमती रिवर फ्रन्ट गुजरात के साबरमती नदी पर बनाए गए रिवर फ्रन्ट की तुलना में बेहतर बना था इसी से चिढकर भाजपा सरकार ने इसे बर्बाद कर दिया।

गोमती रिवर फ्रन्ट पर नदी में लगाएं गयी लाइटें बंद हो गयी। अब यहां हरियाली के बजाए सूखे पौधे हैं। रंग बिरंगे फूलों का आकर्षण खत्म हो गया है। हालांकि समाजवादी सरकार में लगाए गए बच्चों के झूले अभी मजबूत और सुरक्षित है। जबकि यहां न कोई देखरेख है और नहीं रखरखाव है। अब यहां पुरानी रंगीन दृश्यावली के केवल अवशेष जिंदा है। भाजपा सरकार की उपेक्षा से खूबसूरत, सुन्दर रिवर फ्रन्ट अब खंडहर होता जा रहा है। किसी तरह योग केंद्र और औषधि पार्क दुर्दशा के बाद भी जीवित है।
